The last decade has brought about significant technological advancements in the field of automated machine translation, and human translators must adapt to these technologies to avoid being left behind. The study was conducted to assess how prepared the students of Instituto Superior Josefina Contte are for this environment and what can be done to better prepare them for their careers. Seventy-five students were given a questionnaire to gather data on their familiarity and opinions about machine translation (MT). This was followed by a translation task to be completed using the Post-Editing Machine Translation (PEMT) method, and finally, a second questionnaire was administered to assess their experience with the translation task. While studentsā opinions are overall positive, they remain wary of MT and its drawbacks. The translation tasks demonstrated MT struggles with terminology, the analysis of texts as a whole, and the literal interpretation of texts. Students should thus be taughtskills to determine when to trust and mistrust data, as well as the analysis and research abilities to compensate for the shortcomings of MT systems.
