Abstract
Description
Argentina’s National educational curriculum and most of the teachers focus on an “ideal” classroom, rotate learning, and traditional grammar learning methods, ignoring students’ needs, interests, and context reality. Nevertheless, there is much literature about contextualized curriculum, the national curriculum, the link between both curricula, needs analysis, and English second language acquisition to implement in the classroom. Teachers can find all this information separately because no literature connects them. For this reason, this literature review shows the significance and value of linking contextualized curriculum to the National curriculum in Argentina and needs analysis assessment to create meaningful and active English classes at public secondary schools in Mendoza. The main idea is to answer the question “Why is a needs analysis and contextualized curriculum important for public secondary schools in Mendoza?”. The review describes the notions of curriculum, contextualized curriculum, and needs analysis, and explores the connection between second language, the National and Provincial curricula, and the performance of a needs and environment analysis. The design of a contextualized curriculum considering students’ needs, interests and context motivates students, engages them in their learning process, and makes learning English an enjoyable and successful experience.
