Asentado en el debate europeo sobre la “razón de estado” en la temprana edad moderna, este artículo describe las principales características del discurso político de la Contrarreforma. Más concretamente, este trabajo pretende contextualizar el modelo de construcción del estado a finales del siglo XVI. La argumentación se sustentará en la polémica de Pedro de Ribadeneyra (1526-1611) sobre Maquiavelo y Tácito.
Based on the European debate on ‘reason of state’ in the early modern period, this article describes the main features of the political discourse of the Counter-Reformation. More specifically, this article aims to contextualise the model of state-building in the late 16th century.
