dc.descriptionThis study describes the different mechanisms of semantic change present in a limited number of Latin American trap songs. It aims to distinguish the conceptual meaning and the new meanings given to English words when used in non-native contexts, through appropriation and transformation. The research explores the internal dynamics of language and how they are influenced by external, social, historical, and artistic factors, with the objective of revealing the intricate processes by which meaning shifts occur. The study employs a qualitative approach, using descriptive and interpretive methods to analyze the lyrics and word choices. The findings aim to contribute to the fields of semantics and sociolinguistics, contributing to new perspectives into language interaction, adaptation, and changes in contemporary culture and advocating language awareness as a tool for linguistic empowerment.
